March 2019 Kinder News
From the President
Greetings families and a very warm welcome to the new year at Hughesdale Kindergarten. A new year brings new faces and friends, new experiences, new challenges and new opportunities. I’m thrilled to be able to introduce myself as the new President of the Kinder Committee of Management, having taken over from Tim Naulls. My wife Tyahnne and I have already taken great joy in our daughter Isla’s experiences as she settles in to Blue Group and makes new friends. Her first few weeks have been all smiles!
A big thank you to all the outgoing members of the 2018 Committee we could not have achieved so much without your help and effort. We recently held our first Committee meeting for 2019 and the commitment and enthusiasm from everyone was really exciting. We also took a moment out of the formal business agenda to acknowledge and thank Lesley for her commitment to the Kinder. Lesley went above and beyond over the summer break, taking time to keep the Kinder chickens fed, help out with additional administrative work and also took on the OH&S supervisor role – Thank You Lesley!
There was a busy group of eager volunteers at the Kinder on Sunday, 20th January. Guided by our new Maintenance Officer, Jordy, the group set about sweeping, raking, painting, dusting off cobwebs and generally bringing the sparkle back to the Kinder grounds, ready for the New Year and the new and returning children. A big thank you for all those who were able to make it along to help! With these examples in mind, I encourage everyone to be involved in the Kinder community where we can throughout the year. Whether it be through duty rosters, working bees, family days, fundraising initiatives, Mother’s and Father’s Day, chatting with families at pick up and drop off, there are many ways to be involved and stay connected and the community and the experiences of our kids are the better for it.
On another note, I’ll take the opportunity to remind all families that everyone will need a working with children check when they help at Kinder. This means that grandparents, foster parents, friends, aunties, uncles, nannies that help at Kinder are now required to have a free ‘Working with Children Check’. We also do ask that parents get a working with children check, as this will be a requirement when kids transition to primary school. Applications can be made online, where you need to verify your identity and attend a participating post office. It is quick, easy and free and important in safeguarding our Kinder and protecting our children.
I’m looking forward to a wonderful year at Hughesdale Kindergarten and look forward to meeting many of you throughout the year.

We'd like to simplify the way we complete some of our administrative activities - we'd welcome anyone who is interested in helping us do some process re-engineering.
We'd love some help in finding available grants and applying for them.
Please speak to one of the teachers or a Committee member if you can help.
There are a few great events/activities which we have planned for the year that we would love everyone's involvement with. We plan on having one major fundraising event each term, as well as a few social get togethers.
If everyone could mark Friday 29th March 2019 5pm - 7pm this is our first fundraiser a "Children's Walkathon". We will be having this at a local park, putting on a BBQ and having a BYO drink. We will be asking kids to get donations either per lap or as a lump sum donation. There will be prizes for most raised and most laps.
Easter Egg Raffle
We will be putting the call out to everyone to donate some Easter eggs which we will raffle off...In a couple of weeks time we will put a coloured basket for each group at the kinder where you can drop them off.
We are also looking for more volunteers for the fundraising committee. We don't have a representative from Red Group as yet so if anyone could put their hand up we would love the help.
We really hope to have a social and fun time this year, the more people get involved the greater it will be.
We will keep you posted each term with the coming events and dates. There are some great things in store. It's a great way to meet other kinder families and be part of the Kinder community.
We will keep you posted with what your fundraising efforts are able to buy the Kindergarten through each newsletter.
See you on the 29th March!!
